Ricoh Australia has entered into a new sustainability partnership with PrintReleaf, enabling businesses to automatically offset their paper consumption through global reforestation projects.

The platform, delivered by wholesale solution supplier Dynamic Software Solutions (DSS), converts an organisation’s paper footprint into equivalent trees planted in targeted forests or carbon emissions offset through verified global projects.

“PrintReleaf can be directly integrated into existing managed print service monitoring software, thus automating the collection of data,” Sul Koralege, product manager at Ricoh Australia, said.

Koralege explained that the cloud-based system requires no additional hardware or software in the printer fleet, making adoption straightforward for businesses looking to reduce their environmental impact.

“PrintReleaf gathers the data and then reverse calculates how many trees were required and how much carbon was emitted as a result of the paper being consumed,” Koralege said.

The platform automatically replants trees at certified global reforestation projects selected by the customer.

According to Ricoh, approximately 8333 A4 sheets of paper equates to one standard tree, while 117,647 sheets represents one metric tonne of CO2.

The Colorado-based PrintReleaf serves more than 40,000 organisations globally with certified reforestation projects across Brazil, India, Ireland, Mexico and the United States.

“The entire process is completely automated with end-to-end integration from printers through to the planting of trees,” Andrew Tsiorvas, general manager at DSS, said.

Australian organisations using the service will receive a certificate for each biomass or carbon offset issued, plus annual and lifetime summaries that are continually updated.
